Master Gardener and Chicago Conservation Corps Leader, Gregory Bratton, has founded many gardens in the city, usually in conjunction with local community organizations.
The Laquan McDonald Community Garden is one of two that he has established right on his own doorstep. None-the-less, the two gardens, located on either side of his house, involve his neighbors, serve the neighborhood and seven local food pantries.
Photographs and videos provide a chronicle of the development of these gardens, including recovery from major vandalism, to Phoenix-like restoration and resurgence.
The newer Trayvon Martin Garden is dedicated to providing food for seven community food pantries while the Laquan McDonald Garden serves the immediate neighborhood surrounding the two gardens.
