Chicago-based artist and world-renowned metal sculptor, Richard Hunt, and South Chicago artist, Roman Villarreal, had at one time worked in the United States Steel (later USX) steel mill that stood on this site, from 79th Street to 92nd Street, along the lake.
At its peak, the mill employed 20,000. This piece by Hunt turns the stainless steel material into objects of natural beauty. Roman Villarreal's "Steelworkers Memorial Statue" appears on the next page.
